The Pickwick Theater has been a major feature in Park Ridge since it opened in 1928. Generations of Park Ridge residents and people from neighboring communities grew up attending movies at this landmark theater. The owners of the Pickwick Building and managers of the theater, plan to find new managers for this historic theater. As of today an interim manager continues to show popular films in the five theaters.
The Park Ridge Historical Society is collecting memories of the Pickwick Theater. If you would like to share your memories, please add your comments below.
My husband and I have both grown up in Park Ridge. His grandfather set the stone for the Pickwick building. I remember going to the Pickwick 7 times to see the movie Mary Poppins, my favorite. It is a beautiful building and love to see it as we drive to the Uptown area.
I grew up visiting the Pickwick often, with family and friends. Now as an adult, one of my favorite things to do is walk up to the Pickwick with my own family. I love to imagine all the people who have laughed and smiled in the theatre over the last century. We have a framed image of the Pickwick in our front room – we treasure this landmark!
I grew up in Park Ridge along with my husband. Spent many times at the PIckwick. Two favorite movies were Hard Days Night with the Beatles and of course Flipper! Getting some spending money for Dots candy and a drink at the concession counter. Such a classic theatre and ushers with their flashlights telling you to be quiet! LOL . Great memories
I’ve lived in Park Ridge for almost 30 years. My wife grew up here. I’ve seen plenty of movies at the Pickwick over the years but mostly I’ve been impressed with it as an architectural icon and visual cornerstone of Park Ridge.
Saw my first movie alone when I was a kid. Planet of the Apes. Still one of my favorites
